Grateful Dead Backstage Pass : 1984 : Classic Car Hot-Rod !!! : April 13, 1984 ( 4/13/84 : 4/13/1984 ) : Hampton Coliseum - Hampton, Virginia ( VA )
: 1984 Grateful Dead Productions, Inc. ( GDP ) - Vintage Original ( Genuine / Authentic ) : 1984 Spring Tour ! : Vintage Classic Car Auto Pass !! - Very-Rare !!!
Dead Fans !! And quite-possibly too - those from the Mid-Atlantic !! ... who have likely chalked-up a Show or Two - or Many ! at the Legendary Hampton Coliseum !!! Well, offered here is one of the very-rare and highly-collectible ! " Vintage-Car ( Auto ! ) Passes " !!! And, as you likely know - these Vintage / Classic Car Auto Passes featured various Automobiles & Rot-Rod favorites ! ... basically for Auto-Buffs who also love their Good Ol' Grateful Dead ! And even better yet, this one is indeed for " The Spaceship " - also known as the beloved Hampton Coliseum ! Most all Fans know exactly what kinds of Grateful Dead Magic ! has happened inside that treasure of a Rock 'n Roll Venue ! And naturally ... in 1984 !! We all know what that meant in the Grateful Dead Universe ... Heavy Duty " Live-Dead !! ". What a ' Ride ! ' featured on this Beauty ! of a G.D. Pass -
as the Vintage Car is so darn cool, that it almost out-does the " Steal Your Face ! " on the side. Well, nope - as nothing ! quite outdoes a " Steal Your Face ! ".
And ... Oh Nellie ! By goodness, as this Show was Hot ! Both 4/13/84, and the night prior 4/14/84 were G.D. Scorchers !! in fact. This Night 1 kicked off with Day Job ! which I just love ... yes, I am indeed in the ' minority ' - as I even know how to cover this little ditty on Guitar ! I think it's pretty wild that so many Dead Fans actually " wrote in " to the Dead Office - and they actually choose to stop playing it in respect of the Fans wishes ?!? That's cool & all ( I guess ?? ), but I just loved this-one ! And ... I think Garcia really dug playing it too ?! Oh well, water under the bridge I suppose ... But, I still though it was Hot ! that they debuted it in Veneta ! on 8/28/82 at the " 2nd Decadenal Field Trip " !!! Awesome, at least to my humble Dead Fan ears ! So yes ... Day Job opener backed by a Kickin' Minglewood ! with Ace & Jerry just trading Hot ! licks on the slide-guitar, as they are Duelin' !!! It's worth listening to this Show just to hear this alone ! Dire Wolf - BIODTL - then lead to a Rocker ! of a West L.A. !! - as Garcia is starting to head towards that ultra-glassy tube-esque like tone that so solidified his signature fret board attack in 1985 ! He slowly edges his way there over this next year, and it is Quite ! exciting to the ears - dang ... as I bet he wished he had this Boss stuff in the '70's ... but, hey - who cares as they are actually kinda better now ! I do know, I'm in the minority here on this one. Ha ! All Over Now - a pretty Deep ! & Spacey-Jammed Bird Song next ! ... and believe me - Jerry hits the outer-regions here, seriously. Then, maybe the coolest part of this Set ... they just Muscle !!! Hell In a Bucket ! - and I mean really !! muscle-it ... keep in mind, these were indeed the early days for the Bucket ! - and the creativity was everywhere, and every time ! It took them a while to see how this killer song was going to settle, and what a joy to hear it unfold ! Just rad ... Then, Set II - the Big ! Set ... just coated ! in Good Ol' Grateful Dead !!! >>> Scarlet > Fire > Estimated > Drums > Space > The Wheel > Truckin' > GDTRFB > Around & Around > Good Lovin' !!! Then they spike it with a U.S. Blues Encore !! Both of these Hampton Shows are Way !! noteworthy, and though they might not be Niagra Falls '84 !!!... they are getting real close, just 3/4 days before though - so, you can just feel ! it coming on down the line. The Magic ! in the air on this Tour truly started at the Marvin Vets run, and right on the 1st Night ... 3/28/84 ! And luckily, the Boys brought this spirit back east, for a way spirited - and relatively short Tour, with these 2-Shows being the openers >>> Hampton > Rochester > Niagara Falls ! > Philly > New Haven > Providence > Nassau. What a Tour !!! I'm all about this Rock 'n Roll ... I love it ! I know that Garcia takes some heat over 1984, regarding the grainy voice thing - but I've really noticed that Spring Tour '84 just isn't as worthy of the finger-point, on the whole. They really ! get at it on this Tour, ans I have been So ! addicted to listening to it, as of late. A little auto-pilot here & there, sure ... but, when hey hit their Hot Zones !? - oh man is it " ON " ! Gotta love it ... Hampton '84 Spring ! Enjoy !! this Grateful Dead " Vintage Car ! " Backstage Pass Treasure ! ... for " Spaceship Hampton " !!! Fantastic .....
